The Spice of Life Cartoon was created by Fabien Barabe in 1992 as a daily strip for the enjoyment of his family.
By his second year of writing and drawing his business savvy sister-in-law introduced him to reporter Ted Beaudoin of The Chomedey News. Ted was very interested in the cartoon and approached the managing Editor
George DeGuzma who agreed on having the cartoon published on a weekly basis and henceforth became a bilingual cartoon.
Fabien moved to Westmount in 1996 and approached the Westmount Examiner and they published it on a weekly basis with an emphasis on local news stories.
Fabien and his husband moved to Nova Scotia in 1997 and he started to paint with watercolours and then moved on to acrylics. His love of the Nova Scotia and its surroundings is the source of many of his inspired works. Fabien’s imagination shows no bounds when it comes to materials he uses to create unique pieces.
He is a member of the Peggy's Cove Area Festival of the Arts and is part of the Paint Peggy's Cove as well as the Studio Tour.
He returned to cartooning of The Spice of Life as well as the spin-off cartoon The Secret Life of a Naturist which features Johnny Spice and his husband Dan Fogel who is a naturist. Both cartoons appear on Facebook on a as sa Saturday feature.
